When working in a word processing center you truly never know what will be asked of you. As you know already, you have to figure it out regardless. When I teach, part of our training (www.advanceto.com) is spent preparing people to expect the unexpected.
Scenario: The Law Firm was assisting a client that had a new device that was going to be exhibited at a trade show.
The firm had filed the patent for the client and the client was going to display the device and have a 4 minute commercial that would be looped and running at their exhibit booth.
Word Processing was asked to prepare the 4 minute video to:
A. Be looped from YouTube on a laptop
And
B. Be looped from a laptop where the movie file was on the laptop itself.
In this way if there was an Internet related issue they would be covered.
With help from the site screencastsolutions it came together quickly.
Looping a video from You Tube:
Go to the needed video on YouTube.
1. Erase everything in front of the word youtube, so in our example we are erasing "www."
2. After youtube, type the word "repeat" as shown and then press enter.
3. After pressing enter, you are forwarded to the link below, which will repeat your video until you close the page. This page also has a repeat counter to let you know how many times the video has been repeated.
Setting the Video player on your computer or your laptop to loop a video. It should be noted that the client was going to use a large laptop screen at the trade show.
1. Go to Quicktime and/or Windows Media Player that automatically opens to play a video file when it’s clicked.
To set the looping selection in the Quicktime Player:
- Select “View” in the toolbar
- Choose “Loop”
To set the looping in the Windows Media Player:
- There is a “Repeat” button next to “Stop” on the bottom of the controller, that has a symbol of a circular arrow on it
- Click it to “Turn Repeat On” or off
Looping PowerPoint slideshows. For those of you that wish to loop a slideshow
- Go to: “SlideShow”
- Choose “Set Up Slide Show”
- Under the “Show Options” section – check off “Loop continuously until ‘Esc’
With video becoming more prevalent in every type of advertising and marketing, you can expect to be dealing with it even if you are working in a law firm. Either a client has a need or an internal marketing issue might place you in a position where you have to deal with this subject matter. Might as well be comfortable with it.
